St. Rose Philippine Duchesne parish invites you to our Tenebrae service on Wednesday of Holy Week, April 5, at 6:30pm. The word "Tenebrae" means "darkness." This ancient tradition features Matins and Lauds chanted in Latin, interspersed with readings reflecting on the passion of Christ, while 15 candles are gradually extinguished, one after each Psalm, until only one remains. At the very end of the service, the final candle, representing the light of Christ, is hidden away while a strepitus (loud noise) is made, symbolizing the earthquake at Jesus's death and the chaos of a world without its Light, before the candle is finally restored to its place. Last year marked the first time we were able to bring this incredible tradition to North County. We hope you will be able to join us this year and experience the deep riches of the Church's musical tradition.

PRAYER TO JESUS CHRIST CRUCIFIED My good and dear Jesus, I kneel before You, asking You most earnestly to engrave upon my heart a deep and lively faith, hope, and charity, with true repentance for my sins, and a firm resolve to make amends. As I reflect upon Your five wounds, and dwell upon them with deep compassion and grief, I recall, good Jesus, the words the Prophet David spoke long ago concerning Yourself: ``They pierced My hands and My feet; they have numbered all My bones.''
