Mark Twain Award

Each year the MASL nominates 12 titles for the Mark Twain and Truman Awards - an award given to a book voted the best by students across the state in 4th-8th grades.

Over the course of the school year, students will be encouraged to read as many of the books on the list as possible. In order for a book to count towards a student's eligibility to vote, he/she will need to pass the Accelerated Reader test for that book. Passing a test will count towards their classroom goal as well as a library contest.

Once a student has read at least four books (and passed the AR test) he/she is eligible to vote for their favorite during the official statewide election that is held in march. The library will provide ballots and submit all votes to the MASL for inclusion in the statewide count.

Please note, all Mark Twain and Truman nominated books are available at the St. Louis County Library and local bookstores.
